Description

This bitters bottle is composed of a clear cut glass body with a sterling silver mounted collar and stopper. The glass vessel features a bulbous form decorated with repeating vertical thumbprint facets and geometric cut motifs. The neck is fitted with a silver collar featuring four impressed marks in a horizontal row: an uppercase J, A, P, and B. The removable stopper comprises a cork base topped with a silver cap and a narrow protruding pourer tube. The top of the silver cap is struck with four hallmarks including a bird-like symbol and a capital R in a square shield. A lion passant mark, indicating sterling silver, and a small numerical mark are impressed on the vertical edge of the stopper rim.

Condition report:

The silver collar and stopper exhibit surface tarnish and light scratches throughout (photo 1). The cork component shows visible wear, darkening, and minor material loss at the base (photo 3). The glass body shows no visible cracks or chips, though light shelf wear is present on the underside.
