Description
This English bone china display plate features a stylized Art Deco landscape pattern. The central composition, titled House and Bridge, depicts a dark, leaning tree with orange and red foliage, a small cottage with a red roof emitting a swirl of smoke, and a bridge in the foreground crossing over a body of water, all set against rolling hills. The decoration utilizes bold, flat colors and thick black outlines characteristic of the Art Deco movement. The well is framed by a wide yellow border, and the slanting rim is finished in a vibrant orange-red color. The reverse of the plate bears several printed black marks. Centered at the top is the pattern name House and Bridge in single quotes. Below this is the text in The Bizarre World of Clarice Cliff, featuring the word Bizarre in a stylized script. The mark includes a silhouette of a Grecian-style vase above the manufacturer name WEDGWOOD followed by the registered trademark symbol. Additional text reads Bone China, MADE IN ENGLAND, and a copyright notice © Wedgwood 1995. The plate is constructed with a flat well and an unglazed foot rim.
Condition report:
The plate is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the face or base (photo 1, 2). The enameled and printed decoration is vibrant and intact without visible loss. There is some minor shelf wear and light gray scuffing visible on the unglazed foot rim on the reverse (photo 3).
