Description

This is a group of Chinese porcelain ginger jars of varying sizes, each featuring a hand-painted overglaze enamel finish and matching lids. The collection exhibits several traditional decorative palettes. Three jars feature a yellow ground with scrolling floral vines and red longevity medallions. One jar is decorated with a turquoise ground featuring pink and yellow floral motifs and longevity characters. Another jar features an intricate red and blue scrolled pattern with circular reserves containing longevity and ten thousand characters. The largest jar in the collection is decorated with a peach branch within a white reserve, surrounded by an orange honeycomb or scale-patterned ground. One white-ground jar depicts a figurative scene of children playing in a garden near a pine tree. A red printed mark is visible on the base of the red-patterned jar (photo 4). The mark is arranged in columns and rows; the characters in the top left column read 中國 and the top right column reads 景德鎮, above the English words MADE IN CHINA, followed by the number 24 and three horizontal lines. The Chinese characters translate to China Jingdezhen.

Condition report:

The collection is in good condition overall. The orange-ground jar exhibits minor wear to the gilding on the rim of the lid (photo 1). The hand-painted enamels show minor inconsistencies in application and color density across the various pieces, which is characteristic of the production method (photos 1, 2, and 3). All jars retain their original lids. No cracks, chips, or repairs are visible in the provided photographs.
