Description

A rectangular lidded keepsake box constructed from Moroccan thuya burl wood. The exterior surfaces display the characteristic tight knot clusters, bird’s-eye figuring, and swirling grain patterns associated with thuya wood. The lid features a central circular inlay of dark reddish wood, framed by a gold-tone wire or painted outline that extends into two pointed, stylized wing shapes. Four dark, scroll-like accents, possibly ebony or black-lacquered wood, are integrated into the central design. The box is assembled with two small brass-toned barrel hinges. The interior is unfinished, revealing the natural texture of the wood. The base shows a white adhesive label with the handwritten number 4.

Condition report:

The box shows signs of wear consistent with use. A significant diagonal crack or deep scratch is visible on the lower right quadrant of the lid (photo 2). The exterior corners and base edges exhibit minor scuffing and small indentations (photo 2). The wood has a polished finish on the exterior, while the interior remains in a raw, unfinished state with some natural irregularities in the grain (photo 1). The brass-toned hinges appear functional.
