Description
A ceramic musical decanter modeled as a stylized burglar figure titled Burglar Bill. The character is depicted in a red beret and black eye mask, wearing a yellow jacket over a red and white striped shirt and black trousers with red and white checkered patches. He is shown clutching four liquor bottles under his arms. The figure stands on a circular base decorated with a grey stone block pattern. The underside of the base features a green stamped mark reading FOREIGN and a scalloped red foil label with gold lettering that reads BOND WARE IMPORTED around a stylized cursive letter B. The base houses a mechanical musical movement with a metal winding key and a white plastic plunger stop-start mechanism. The head of the figure serves as a removable stopper.
Condition report:
The ceramic stopper/head has sustained significant damage, showing multiple large cracks and fractures running through the face, mask, and neck (photo 1 and 3). There is evidence of an amateur adhesive repair along these fracture lines, resulting in visible dark residue and staining (photo 3). Scattered black scuffs and minor paint losses are present on the face and neck area (photo 3). The printed text on the base shows light surface rubbing (photo 1). On the underside, the fiberboard base plate is missing one of its three mounting screws, leaving a threaded post exposed (photo 2). The musical mechanism has not been tested for functional order.
