Description

A trio of English glazed earthenware pieces from the Botanic Garden collection, featuring transfer-printed botanical and insect illustrations framed by the pattern’s signature laurel leaf border. The group includes an oval, flat-bodied flask vase decorated with Cyclamen Repandum (Ivy-leaved Cyclamen), pink blossoms, and various insects; a baluster-shaped vase featuring Rhododendron Lepidotum with pink flowers, a dragonfly, and a bee; and a low cylindrical candle holder decorated with blue Speedwell flowers and a butterfly. The candle holder features a central well and a laurel leaf border on the upper rim.

The underside of the candle holder (photo 3) bears a printed mark in brown ink. The mark features a central circular logo containing the text THE BOTANIC GARDEN circa 1818, flanked by floral sprigs. Below this, a ribbon banner reads PORTMEIRION. Additional text at the base of the mark reads copyright design and made in England. The pieces are attributed to Portmeirion based on these readable marks identifying both the maker and the pattern name.

Condition report:

The pieces are in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The candle holder exhibits dark surface residue and grime concentrated around the interior base and upper rim (photo 3), consistent with previous use. The vases show no significant surface wear or defects in the provided images.
