Description
A tall, slender hand-painted porcelain chocolate pot featuring a tapering cylindrical body, a high-arched handle, a long curved spout, and a domed lid with a gold-toned finial. The vessel is decorated with a matte, shaded tan-to-cream ground. The front displays a large floral spray consisting of a vibrant orange poppy-style flower, a central blue rose, and green foliage. The reverse side features a simpler motif of three brown leaves. The handle and the rim of the lid are finished with gold-toned luster. The underside of the base features a mark printed in red ink reading HAND PAINTED MADE IN JAPAN in three lines. Although web results suggest a similarity to Noritake wares, the mark does not contain a specific maker name to confirm such an attribution.
Condition report:
A significant chip is visible at the very tip of the spout (photo 1). There are light surface scratches and minor losses to the paint on the main floral motif on the body (photo 1). The gold-toned finish on the handle shows signs of wear and thinning throughout (photo 2). The base rim shows some minor darkening and surface dirt consistent with age (photo 3).
