Description
A vintage rectangular wooden music box featuring a hinged lid and a hand-painted floral motif. The lid is decorated with a vibrant bouquet of alpine flowers including blue gentians, white edelweiss, and pink alpenrose set against a natural light-finished wood ground. A pyrographed banner on the front edge of the lid contains the text Kitzbuhel Tirol in a stylized script, identifying the piece as a souvenir from the Austrian resort town. The lid and all four sides of the box are further detailed with wood-burned scrolling vine borders. The interior is divided into two sections: a larger open compartment for trinkets and a smaller compartment containing a musical mechanism protected by a fitted wooden cover. The underside of the box reveals three small screws and a metal winding key. The winding key features a cast relief reading REUGE, identifying the movement as being produced by the Swiss manufacturer Reuge. The box is raised on four integral wooden block feet.
Condition report:
The music box is in good vintage condition with signs of age and use. The hand-painted decoration on the lid remains bright, though there is minor surface wear and small scattered scratches to the wood finish (photo 1). A vertical green mark is visible on the front right corner (photo 1). The interior wood shows some dark staining and spotting consistent with age (photo 2). The metal winding key and screws on the underside show minor oxidation (photo 3). The hinges appear intact and functional.
