Description

A trio of vintage cigarette trade cards featuring English Setters, presented in a single frame. These cards are printed ephemera from John Player and Sons, likely dating from the 1920s or 1930s. Each card displays a different illustration of the breed. The card on the left is a vertical portrait showing the head and neck of a blue belton English Setter. The central card is oriented horizontally and depicts two English Setters in a landscape setting, appearing to work in a field. The card on the right is a vertical portrait showing a full-body seated English Setter.

Each card features printed text at the top and bottom. The top of every card bears the printed name “PLAYER’S CIGARETTES” in a simple sans-serif font. The bottom of each card is printed with the breed name “ENGLISH SETTER.” The cards are mounted on a dark olive-green mat. The display is housed in a dark wood-grain frame with a light-colored inner border and protective glass.

Condition report:

The cards appear to be in good vintage condition with no visible tears or folds (photo 1). The printing remains crisp and the colors are well-preserved under the glass. The matting shows a minor amount of light dust or debris visible under the glass along the lower edge (photo 1). The wooden frame exhibits minor scuffing and wear to the finish consistent with age, notably at the corners and along the bottom rail (photo 1). The glass is intact and free of cracks.
