Description

A small Chinese cloisonne enamel vase of baluster form, featuring a flared rim and a circular foot. The vessel is constructed with a brass or copper alloy base. The exterior surface is decorated with an all-over floral design consisting of chrysanthemums and scrolling foliage executed in the cloisonne technique. Fine brass wires form the cells, which are filled with translucent and opaque enamels in shades of dark brown, russet, and olive green. The rim and foot are finished in polished brass. The interior of the neck and the underside of the base are finished in a characteristic turquoise-blue counter-enamel. The underside of the base (photo 3) is finished in plain turquoise enamel and lacks any visible reign marks, signatures, or maker labels.

Condition report:

The vase is in good overall condition. There is minor surface oxidation and tarnishing to the exposed brass rim and foot (photo 2 and 3). The enamel appears intact with no significant pitting or losses visible, though there is general surface wear and minor scuffing consistent with age across the body (photo 4). No major cracks or repairs are visible in the provided images.
