Description
A decorative bust depicting the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, based on the 14th-century BCE original. The figure is shown wearing the iconic flat-topped crown featuring a protruding cobra (uraeus) at the brow and a broad floral collar. The sculpture is constructed from a cast composite or resin material, finished with a gold-tone metallic coating on the skin and headdress. The collar and crown band are decorated with polychrome accents in green, red, and black. The bust is mounted onto a two-tier rectangular plinth finished to simulate aged, light-colored stone. The four sides of both tiers of the base feature incised characters mimicking ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. These marks are decorative and stylized, including bird forms, geometric shapes, and vertical strokes, but they do not form a legible script or represent a manufacturer’s mark. There are no maker’s names, factory stamps, or signatures visible on the piece. A vertical seam from the casting process is visible running down the back of the crown and neck.
Condition report:
The bust shows significant wear and loss to the gold-toned finish, most notably on the top and sides of the crown, the tip of the nose, and the chin, where the underlying dark material is exposed (photo 1). There is minor scuffing and paint loss to the green and red accents on the collar and the headband (photo 2). The faux stone base exhibits small chips and surface wear along the edges and corners (photo 2). A prominent vertical casting seam is visible on the reverse of the head and neck.
